Figurative Ceramic Sculptures and Other Creations
What the Clay Knows
Sculpting earth with touch and tool and fire
Formed of feeling,
Of memories and time,
Gently pushing aside resistance
Into existence.
Gesture, texture and hue
Composing the moment
With the subconscious
Suppressed sensations
and ignored questions
I couldn't bring myself to ask.
Autonomous truths peeking through
Unencumbered by their reception
Indifferent to implications
Present.
Visiting old stories
The hard things already living there
Lessons, too
waiting in fur and fang.
Contradictions peacefully coexisting
Uninterested in the struggles they create
Resolution the fool’s errand
Acquiescence the keystone
Of the archway to what’s next.
Ancient methods
ancient particles
ancient experiences made new
In ceramic and oxide
Glaze and ash
Entropy doing its honest work
Something truer than intention
Blooming from heat and smoke.
